Beginning July 22, 2012 through August 4, 2012 I will be participating in an internship with LightForce International Ministries (LIM). LIM is a Christian ministry based out of Costa Rica, Central America, that is dedicated to being the hands and feet of Jesus for those in need. Below is a mission statement from their website:
“Our ministry reaches out to women and children who are involved in or are victims of exploitation and prostitution in Central America. While the majority of Lightforce International's work is to young women and children, we work hard to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support to all in need.”
Lightforce reaches women and children in Central America by holding fiestas and trade workshops that supply Food, Fun, Immediate Medical Needs, workshops for learning different trades for women who only know a life of prostitution, and a Hope that comes from the Lord. This outreach is called the Mariposa Project (Butterfly Project). The primary goal is centered on the hope to be love in action.
I have the blessing to take this opportunity and go to be a part of this team as an intern and as a servant of the Lord. “Leadership begins at the feet of Jesus” - Jay Strack. I will be spending a total of two weeks in San Jose, Costa Rica with LIM. The Lord has already revealed that the two weeks I am there will be important to the future plans He holds for my life and the lives of others that I have the blessing to engage with. I want to take a moment to explain why this opportunity is so close to my heart.
A little background information:
Over the past 3 years I have attended Regent University studying a dual B.A. Degree in Theatre and Cinema-Television (CTV). I have now at the end of my third year completed my degree in Theatre and continue to peruse my second degree in CTV. Upon my graduation from Regent University in May 2013 I intend on perusing ministry from a cinematic and communicative standpoint. Over the past three years my mission statement has molded into what I carry with me today—it is as follows: “To Educate, Entertain, Affect, Ignite and Call People to Action.” This mission statement is the desire on my heart, to see God’s justice revealed and to see it prevail through acts of social injustice.
I am excited to open my mind, heart and spirit to this internship as a very important learning and growing experience. I feel like I could hear about and talk about how horrid social injustice is as much as I want and yet be lacking so much in not knowing from experience. I long to be the hands and feet of Jesus and this requires and calls for action on my part. Thus I am quite possibly taking the step that will become the scariest, most daring, most challenging and exciting step I have yet to take in my young adult life. I do not see myself as going with a group or a team, I envision myself going as a disciple and a child of the Lord who has been called and seeks to answer His calling.
It has been amazing to see the hand of God already moving in this process. I am preparing for this trip as much as I can without truly knowing the things that God has planned (I’m very excited!)
